Bethany B. Testimonial
We had tried many, many types of programs and spent thousands of dollars to help our son, who had been diagnosed with a learning disability/dyslexia, to get him reading. A skill that was supposed to “come naturally” by 1st grade, was still eluding him in the 4th grade. While everyone else had moved on to chapter books, he was still struggling with The Cat in the Hat. I was at my wit’s end, as I saw our bright, talented, happy son’s self esteem and confidence plummet. Then we found Sheila!

She provided intensive instruction 4 hrs per day in our home. She immediately established a wonderful relationship with our son, giving structure, scheduled break times and obtainable goals to help him feel successful. She provided tangible incentives and charted “milestones” that proved to our son he WAS improving and together they were going to conquer this hurdle. She was able to give him tolls that unlocked the “mystery of figuring out words” on the printed page.

As his ability to decode the words improved, Sheila then moved on to improving his ability to comprehend the meaning of those words and he could mentally start to form a “picture” of what the words were trying to say. He was beginning to not only read fluently…but REMEMBER what he was reading and have the skill to communicate verbally to us what the author was trying to say. What a homerun!

After a lot of hard work, perseverance and determination—by both teacher and student!—our son was closing in on reading grade level material, understanding AND retaining its meaning! No matter how big or difficult any work looked…he knew he could break it down into “chunks” and figure it out, utilizing the strategies Sheila taught him. He was no longer intimidated by reading! Instead he felt empowered for the first time in his educational experience.

She was masterful at not treating him like a “baby,” and sought out age appropriate reading subjects that interested him personally as a 10 yr old. We can never thank Sheila enough for her diligence and obvious enthusiasm for her gift of teaching. Her techniques were THE KEY to helping our son read and comprehend.

We highly recommend her services!!

Sincerely,
Bethany B.
